"Behind every successful woman is herself."

While there are no clear-cut rules on what every woman should possess by her 25th birthday, I think I've come up with some habits and rules that will help you in your early adult years.  While some of these rules may seem like no-brainers, there may be a few things that simply never crossed your mind,  Take a look inside to see my list of the 16 things every young woman should have by her 25th birthday.

1. Confidence.  You should not feel obligated to explain any of the choices you choose to make for yourself. Date who you want, enjoy that amazing dessert or rock your natural hair if you choose. If you're not endangering yourself or others, have the courage to live your life...by your rules.
2. Savings Account. It's a good idea to store away a portion of your income into a "rainy day" savings account. A good rule of thumb is to save 10% of your monthly income and at least three months' living expenses.
3. Meaningful Friendships. Ok. So you have 650 "friends" on Facebook.  Can you really say that each individual is actually your friend?  Build healthy relationships with those that matter most to you.
4. A Best Friend. The next best thing to having an amazing relationship with your sister is having a best friend that's like a sister.
5. Your Own Sanctuary.  You deserve a space that you can call your own.
6. Wardrobe Basics.  A little black dress, pencil skirt, flattering jeans, black pants, black and nude pumps, ballet flats, crisp white shirt and a white tee are some of the staples to have in your closet.  Remember, you should always have something to wear to an interview, funeral, wedding, Friday night drinks with the girls and your dream date (just in case that cute guy in your building decides to make his move).
7. Guts.  Don't be afraid to go after that promotion, ask for a raise or end a relationship.  As long as you remain graceful and cordial, never be afraid to go after what you desire.
8. Essentials, Part I.  A favorite sit down restaurant, a go-to coffee drink, a five minute hair style for those mornings when you're in a rush, a hard copy of your favorite book and an amazing piece of furniture you're not afraid to show off.
9. Hobbies.  Yoga, painting, photography, salsa dancing, running or joining a book club.  Have a hobby that does not involve drinking or shopping (although we can understand the enjoyment this may bring!).
10. Essentials, Part II. A drill, a non-stick pan, a credit card line no one else has access to, a bra that you were measured for at the store and working knowledge of how to change a tire, unclog a pipe, make an investment and find great shoes on the extra 40% rack.

11. Cooking Basics.  Collect a few go-to recipes that are simple and easy to memorize.
12. Passport and Sturdy Luggage.  Experience a trip that will leave you with mind-blowing stories to share and plan a trip that you can make awesome plans for in the future.
13. Comfort Around Other Women.  Never resent, ridicule or compare yourself to other women for what they do or don't have.
14. Self-Love.  Have a healthy relationship with your body and be joyful of the special qualities that make you unique from others.
15. A Mother-Daughter Bond.  If you're blessed to have your mother around, make an effort to have a functioning relationship with her.
16. Emergency kit. Tylenol/Advil, eyedrops, a tampon, hand sanitizer, a fresh pair of underwear, a travel sized toothbrush, hydrocolloid bandages for blisters, $20 cash, a condom, and Plan B.
